Paul and Silas
When Paul and Silas
Went to prayer,
A certain woman
Followed them there.
Possessed by a spirit,
She did shout.
Paul turned around,
And cast it out.
She didn’t soothsay,
Anymore.
And then her masters,
They got sore.
Dragged the apostles,
To the marketplace.
To the rulers,
Got on their case.
They beat them,
And threw them in jail.
About midnight,
They began to wail.
But they weren’t
Crying out with pain.
They were singing praises,
To Jesus’ name.
Suddenly,
There was an earthquake.
The jail bars,
Began to shake.
And opened
Of their own accord.
Then the jailer,
He pulled out his sword.
Paul cried out,
“Don’t you fear.
Do yourself no harm.
We’re all here.”
The jailer,
He wanted to be saved.
This instruction,
Paul then gave.
“Believe on Jesus,
‘Cause when you do,
You’ll be saved,
And your family too.”
Now when things seem bad,
In these days,
Be like Paul and Silas,
And sing God’s praise.
Many years before Elvis,
In them stocks,
Paul and Silas were doin’
The jailhouse rock!
