Finger Puppets - Daniel in the Lion's Den

Using finger puppets is a great way to teach a bible lesson your children will remember. The little puppets keep the children’s attention as you use them to teach. Then they can color their own set to take home. Reinforce the lesson by asking the children to tell a short version of the bible account with you using their puppets after they complete them.

Click on “Print this Resource” and print the finger puppets for this lesson on card stock or heavy paper. Have your set prepared in advance. Cut out enough to distribute to the children to color after the lesson.

Carefully cut out each puppet, making sure to cut the lines on the bottom of each one only halfway through the base. These cutlines are designed to fit different sized hands. After the puppet is colored, form a ring by inserting a cutline from one side into a cutline from the other side. Slip on your finger and share the bible account. (Have some tape nearby in case any of the children tear their puppets.)

Daniel Finger Puppet Lesson

Today we are going to learn about Daniel (put Daniel on your finger). Daniel loved God and always did his best to obey God. We should obey God too, shouldn’t we? Daniel prayed to God by his window three times every day. We should pray to God every day too, shouldn’t we?

Daniel lived in the land of Babylon. Even though he was brought to Babylon as just a servant, the king made him a president.

There were some men that were jealous of Daniel (take Daniel off, put the man on your fingers). They wanted to get Daniel in trouble. They watched Daniel but he didn’t do anything wrong. Those men knew that Daniel prayed every day. They came up with an evil plan.

They went to the king (put king on finger). Here’s King Darius. Those evil men tricked King Darius into making a law that anyone who prayed in the next thirty days was to be put in the den of lions.

(Take off king and man, put Daniel on your finger.) When Daniel heard about that law do you think Daniel still prayed (listen for answers)? Daniel loved God so much that it didn’t matter what the law was. He didn’t care about the lions. He still prayed.

Those evil men reported to the king that Daniel was praying (put king on your finger). Daniel was brought before King Darius. The king was sorry he made that law, but it was too late now. The king told Daniel, “You’re God will save you.”

That evening the king sent Daniel to the lions’ den (remove king, add lions). King Darius stayed awake all that night. Early the next morning the king hurried to the lions’ den (add king). The king cried out, “Daniel, was your God able to save you?”

He heard Daniel’s voice say, “Oh king, live forever.”

Daniel said God had sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths, and they did not hurt him.

How do you think the king felt (listen to answers). King Darius was so happy God saved Daniel from the lions that he made a decree that everyone should serve the one true God, because He saved Daniel.

(Remove king and Daniel and add lions and man) The king commanded the evil men to be thrown in the lions’ den.

What do you think we can learn from this lesson (listen for answers)?

Do you think it teaches us that we should pray?

Do you think it teaches us to Trust God no matter what?

Do you think it teaches us not to be jealous like those evil men?

Do you think it teaches us not to plan to do evil things to other people?
