Teacher Tips - Take-home Papers
A take-home paper is a page that with an activity that correlates to the lesson taught that day. The child takes the page home with him and brings it back completed the following week. It can be a puzzle, game, worksheet, maze or coloring picture.
Take-home papers are effective in several different ways. The child has them at home to remind them of the bible lesson taught. They serve as a reminder of the class itself encouraging them to go back. It may bring the bible lesson to others in the home. That is why they are not allowed to turn them back in the same day. It must be the following week.
Take home papers can be used to encourage children to come
back to the next class. Offer an incentive to everyone who brings the completed paper back the following week. Perhaps something as simple as a sticker or points toward a prize. If you use an attendance board with the children’s names, it can be an extra star by their name.
If you are teaching a memory verse, print that on the take-home paper as a reminder for them to practice memorizing it.
