God is in Control

There was a flood in a small town. Mr. Smith was looking out his second story window. The flood waters were up to the sill. His neighbor came by in a boat. “Get in,” the neighbor urged. “Let’s get out of here.”

“Don’t worry about me,” Mr. Smith answered. “God is going to save me from this flood.”

The waters rose and Mr. Smith was now looking out of his attic window, with the flood waters up to the sill. A boat came by from the National Guard. “Get in, Mister,” they called out.

Mr. Smith refused. “God is going to save me from this flood.”

Soon we find Mr. Smith sitting on the roof of his house, which by now is almost totally covered with water. A helicopter hovers overhead with a rope dangling down. “The pilot shouts down, “Grab the rope. Grab the rope.”

Mr. Smith refuses. “Go on boys. God will save me from this flood.”

The flood waters overtake the house and Mr. Smith drowns. The next scene takes us to heaven where Mr. Smith is greeted by Saint Peter. Mr. Smith confided to Saint Peter, “I just don’t understand why God didn’t save me from the flood.”

“What more could he do?” Saint Peter asked. “He sent two boats and a helicopter, and you wouldn’t get in any of them!”

If we are truly following Jesus, things don’t just happen to us by chance. We may pray regarding a certain area of our life. If things don’t happen exactly the way we want, we may start to blame God, or think that He’s not helping us in the matter. We need to trust God in every situation we encounter day by day. If we listen to Him, He will show us the way in all things and give us perfect peace.

Psalms 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.
