Love the Lord thy God

Matthew 22:37

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

One day when Jesus was teaching, one of the religious leaders asked Him what the greatest commandment is? Jesus told the man, “You must love God with your heart and soul and mind.”

What does that mean? If we love God with all our heart and soul and mind, we want to please Him. We want to obey Him. We want to serve Him. We want to live our lives in a way that pleases God. We want to spend time with Him. We can spend time with God by praying. That’s talking to God. We can spend time with God by worshipping Him. We can worship Him by telling God how good He is and how much we love Him. We can clap our hands. We can lift our hands and sing to Him. We can spend time with Him by going to church.

If we really love God with all our heart, and soul, and mind, we want to please Him no matter what. We love Him when we’re happy. We love Him when we’re sad. We love Him when everything is going well, and even when it’s not.

Our snowflake has clowns in it. I like clowns. They can be fun to watch. I like their funny outfits and big shoes. Clowns use make up to make big smiles or tears. They can paint on any kind of face they want. Then they can wash it off and they don’t look like clowns anymore. It’s almost like they have different faces.

Clowns remind me of some people who say they love God, but they don’t act like it all the time. It’s like when they are at church, they put on their face that loves God. But when they get around some of their friends, it’s like they put on their clown face and act like they don’t care about God at all.

We should love God and want to please Him no matter where we are or who we are with. We must love God with all our heart, and soul, and mind.

Making the Snowflake

Click the Print Resource button to download the pattern.

1. Print and cut out the pattern. (Some people find it easier to trace out if it’s printed on heavier paper such as cardstock.)

2. Use an 8 1/2 inch square piece of paper. Lightweight paper works best. You can use copy paper, tracing paper, parchment paper, or even the back of wrapping paper.

a. Lay the square on the table in front of you. Fold the bottom of the square up to the top and slide your finger across to form a rectangle, creasing the paper.

b. Fold the left edge of the rectangle to the right edge to make a square, creasing the paper.

c. Make a triangle by folding the right lower corner to the top left corner. The bottom point of this triangle will be the center of your snowflake.

3. Trace the pattern on your triangle, making sure to position the bottom of the pattern toward the bottom point of your triangle. (Depending on the size of your paper and tightness of the creases, the pattern may not fit exactly. Extend or shorten the lines if necessary.)

4. Cut out the snowflake with sharp scissors. The areas on the sample marked “Do Not Cut” are sections that keep the snowflake connected and must be saved.

5. Carefully unfold the paper. Mount to a background if desired.
