Members of One Body
A horse walked up to a baseball manager and requested to join his team. The manager said, “You can’t play baseball. You’re a horse.”
“Just give me a chance,” the horse pleaded. The manager thought it might be fun, so he gave the horse a bat, and told his pitcher to throw him a few. The pitcher pitched the ball. The horse swung and the ball soared into the sky over the fence. Two more pitches were thrown, and it was one home run and another. The manager hired the horse. Afterall, there were no rules against horses in the major league rule book.
The manager decided to use the horse as his “secret weapon.” He saved him until he really needed him. It was the bottom of the ninth and his team was down by one run. There were two outs. He sent the horse to bat. There was the pitch. It was high fly out into leftfield. It bounced off the leftfielder’s glove. The shortstop recovered it but tripped and lost the ball. The second basemen recovered it and threw it to the first baseman who missed it. The first baseman chased after the ball, picked it up and returned to his base. The horse was not even halfway to first base and was unquestionably out. The manager ran onto the field screaming at the horse.
“Why didn’t you tell me you couldn’t run?”
“Oh, come on,” said the animal. “I’m a horse. If I could run, do you really think I would have tried out for the baseball team?”
Not every one of us is a fast runner, nor are all of us great singers. Some of us are very detail oriented, while others have a vision of the greater overall picture. Each one of us has something special and unique about us. We have a way that we fit into God’s plan and can do service for Him. You may not know what area God will use you in, but if you are willing, He will lead you. If you follow Him, you will be blessed.
