On a flight from California to Hawaii, the captain’s voice came over the speaker, “Folks, we just lost one of our engines, but there is no need to panic. We still have three engines. However, we will be an hour behind schedule.”

The passengers looked out the windows at the ocean below, but the voice of the stewardess calmed any potential for panic. A few minutes later, the pilot’s voice again was heard. “Folks, we lost engine number two, but remember, we still have two engines left, so there’s no need for concern. We will be two hours behind schedule.”

Whispers were heard on the plane, but everyone remained calm. The captain’s voice was again carried to the passengers. “We’ve lost a third engine. Everyone should remain calm. We will arrive in Hawaii, safely, three hours behind schedule.”

One of the passengers seemed very frustrated. She was heard to say, “I hope we don’t lose that fourth engine, or we’ll be up here all day!”

She just didn’t get it. What seemed to be a problem with just one engine slowly grew into what could be a disaster. Sin can take over our life very much the same way. Even if it seems harmless, we should not give place in our life to sin.
