A man went to a doctor’s office. “Doc, you’ve got to help me. I can’t breathe, I break out in a sweat, and my eyes bug out.”

The doctor examined him but couldn’t detect what was causing the symptoms. He sent him to a specialist.

The man explained to the specialist, “I can’t breathe, I break into a sweat, and my eyes bug out.”

The specialist ordered many tests and prescribed many different treatments, but nothing seemed to help. The man said, “Look Doc, I’ve been seeing you for a year now, and I still can’t breathe, I break out in a sweat, and my eyes bug out. Isn’t there anything you can do for me?”

The doctor had a solemn look on his face. “No, I’m sorry, there is not,” the doctor answered. I suggest you make your final arrangements.”

The man left the doctor’s office and began planning his funeral. He picked out a coffin, talked to a florist, and purchased a tombstone. He went to a clothing store to pick out his burial suit. “I’ll need a black suit, a black tie, and a white shirt, size 14 ½,” he said to the tailor.

You can’t wear a 14 ½,” the tailor answered. “Why you wouldn’t be able to breathe, you’d break out in a sweat, and your eyes would bug out!”

In our story the doctors and specialist were searching for the cause of the man’s illness. With all their knowledge and specialized training, they overlooked what seemed so simple to the tailor. Many people are trying to reach heaven by some great work they might do. They overlook the fact that Jesus has already provided the only way. He is the only Way! We must simply believe God’s word, that Jesus shed His blood on Calvary so that we can be saved.

I Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
