What is a One Liner Skit?
One Liner Skits are some of the most fun skits you can do with your children. Adults and children love watching them! The skits do not require any rehearsal. They don’t require expensive costumes, props or scenery. Each child is given only one line to say just prior to their turn. Use funny props you find in thrift stores, your closet, dollar stores or make them yourself.
The children have no idea what they are going to do or say in advance. The children you choose to be in the skit are just given a piece of paper with a number on it during the program or class.
This requires two adults, the teacher who leads the program, and an assistant who gets the child ready off stage and tells him his line.
The teacher announces the skit is about to begin and sends Child Number 1 off stage. The assistant puts funny props on the child and tells the child their line. She encourages the child to speak loudly and “ham it up.” The child is to speak the line every time the teacher cues the child (generally, by squeezing his shoulder).
When Child Number 1 enters the stage, the teacher sends Child Number 2 off stage to be instructed and so on.
How Will You Get to Heaven?
Characters:
1 - Max Money – hat, “gold” chains, oversized play money
When teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m so rich!” and fan the money.
2 - Patty Popular – big ribbon clipped in her hair, hand mirror
When teacher squeezes her shoulder, she should say “I’m so popular!” and look in the mirror and admire herself.
3 - Sammy Strong – fake mustache, barbells (can be made by gluing circles made from Styrofoam or foam rubber painted black on both ends of a dowel rod or old broom handle)
When he comes on stage, he carries the barbells up like they are heavy and then puts them down. When the teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m so strong!” and make a muscle.
4 - Sally Smart – graduation cap, dictionary, funny glasses
When she comes on stage, she should hold the book like she is reading it. When the teacher squeezes her shoulder, she should say “I’m so smart!” and hold her head up like she is proud.
5 - Nancy Nice – Funny hat or ribbons clipped to her hair, a scarf
When teacher squeezes her shoulder, she should say “I’m so nice!” and wave the scarf in the air.
6 - Brother Cool – Baseball cap, sunglasses
When teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m so cool!” and strut.
The assistant will also have a line, but no funny props. She should hold a bible and say Jesus died for my sins.
The props listed are just suggestions, use your imagination and have fun!
In addition to the props suggest, make a sign with a marker, construction paper and yarn with the name of each character and hang it on the child.
