What is a One Liner Skit?
One Liner Skits are some of the most fun skits you can do with your children. Adults and children love watching them! The skits do not require any rehearsal. They don’t require expensive costumes, props or scenery. Each child is given only one line to say just prior to their turn. Use funny props you find in thrift stores, your closet, dollar stores or make them yourself.
The children have no idea what they are going to do or say in advance. The children you choose to be in the skit are just given a piece of paper with a number on it during the program or class.
This requires two adults, the teacher who leads the program, and an assistant who gets the child ready off stage and tells him his line.
The teacher announces the skit is about to begin and sends Child Number 1 off stage. The assistant puts funny props on the child and tells the child their line. She encourages the child to speak loudly and “ham it up.” The child is to speak the line every time the teacher cues the child (generally, by squeezing his shoulder).
When Child Number 1 enters the stage, the teacher sends Child Number 2 off stage to be instructed and so on.
Too!
Characters:
1 – Kimberly the Kid – doll, baby bottle, pacifier, hair bow
When teacher squeezes her shoulder, she should say “I’m too young” with a baby voice and stomp her foot.
2 – Harry the Hurrier – hat, pre-tied tie to slip on, briefcase
When teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m too busy” and look at his pretend watch.
3 - Sammy the Senior Citizen – beard, hat, cane
When the teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m too old” in a shaky voice.
4 – Dora the Do-gooder – Apron, feather duster
When the teacher squeezes her shoulder, she should say “I’m too tired!” and yawn.
5 – Dale the Delinquent – Sunglasses, cap (on backwards), toy gun tucked in waistband, brown root beer bottle, gum cigar
When teacher squeezes her shoulder, he should say “I’m too bad”
6 – Two mourners – black veils or hats, gurney with body on it (Suggestion: Use a 4’ x 1 ½’ piece of heavy cardboard, wood, or paneling. Attach a 5’ strip of wood on each edge of the bottom leaving 6” on each end for handles. Used a rolled-up blanket with a sheet draped over it for the body.)
Two mourners carry the gurney out. Only one mourner has a speaking part. When teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “It’s too late” and both mourners should make loud crying sounds.
The props listed are just suggestions, use your imagination and have fun!
In addition to the props suggested, make a sign with a marker, construction paper and yarn with the name of each character and hang it on the child.
The Skit
(The teacher is on stage and Child Number 1 (Kimberly the Kid) enters)
Who’s this? Why, it’s Kimberly the Kid! (Squeeze shoulder)
While I’m talking to Kimberly, whoever has the paper with the 2 written on it, go see _________ to get ready.
I would like to talk to you for a minute Kimberly. (Squeeze shoulder)
But Kimberly, it’s very important. (Squeeze shoulder)
Kimberly, it’s the most important thing you’ll ever hear. (Squeeze shoulder)
Kimberly, I want to tell you about Jesus. (Squeeze shoulder)
Do you know that Jesus loves you, Kimberly? (Squeeze shoulder)
But Kimberly, Jesus loves children. (Squeeze shoulder)
The bible tells us how Jesus’ disciples wanted to keep some kids away from Jesus, but Jesus said to let the children come to Him. (Squeeze shoulder)
Jesus blessed the little children. (Squeeze shoulder)
Jesus loves you Kimberly, and He wants you to love Him too. (Squeeze shoulder)
Please let me tell you about Jesus Kimberly. (Squeeze shoulder)
Some people think they are too young to know Jesus, but Jesus loves everybody no matter how young you are. Do you know you can do things for Jesus when your young? You tell others about Jesus. You can pray for your friends. You should learn all you can about Jesus and talk to Him everyday in prayer.
Everyone give Kimberly the Kid a big hand. Thank you, Kimberly. Now the person with number 3 go see _____ to get ready.
(Child Number 1 (Kimberly the Kid) exits, Child Number 2 (Harry the Hurrier) enters)
Oh, look, it’s Harry the Hurrier. (Squeeze shoulder)
Can I talk to you Harry? (Squeeze shoulder)
I know you’re busy Harry, but I just want a few minutes. (Squeeze shoulder)
I want to tell you about Jesus. (Squeeze shoulder)
Do you know Jesus? (Squeeze shoulder)
Do you know that Jesus loves you? (Squeeze shoulder)
Do you ever read your bible? (Squeeze shoulder)
Do you ever pray? (Squeeze shoulder)
Do you know that Jesus died for your sins? (Squeeze shoulder)
Harry the Hurrier is a hard worker. He’s honest at his job. He takes good care of his family. Those are good things, but he forgot the most important thing of all. He needs to take time to pray and read his bible. He needs to take time to ask Jesus to forgive his sins and have a relationship with Jesus. He should take his family to church. He should teach them about God’s love. Many of us are busy, but we should never be too busy to spend time with God and worship and serve Him.
Everyone give Harry the Hurrier a big hand. Thank you, Harry. Now the person with number 4 go see _____ to get ready.
(Child Number 2 (Harry the Hurrier) exits, Child Number 3 (Sammy the Senior Citizen) enters)
Oh look, it’s Sammy the Senior Citizen. (Squeeze shoulder)
Can I talk to you Sammy? (Squeeze shoulder)
Sammy, I need to talk to you about the Lord. (Squeeze shoulder)
Sammy, do you know that Jesus Loves you? (Squeeze shoulder)
Sammy, do you know that Jesus wants you to be part of His family? (Squeeze shoulder)
Sammy, do you know Jesus died on the cross so someday you can have a home in heaven? (Squeeze shoulder)
Sammy, have you ever asked Jesus to save you? (Squeeze shoulder)
Sammy, Jesus loves you no matter how old you are. (Squeeze shoulder)
Sammy, it’s not too late. Won’t you pray now? (Squeeze shoulder)
Just because Sammy the Senior Citizen is old. He thinks it’s too late to come to Jesus. He thinks he wasted his life and now God doesn’t want him. That’s not true God loves everyone and wants to save everyone. Not only that, He wants people to serve Him. You’re never too old to serve God. He has a job for every believer.
Everyone give Sammy the Senior citizen a big hand. Thank you, Sammy. Now the person with number 5 go see _____ to get ready.
(Child Number 3 (Sammy the Senior Citizen) exits, Child Number 4 (Dora the Do-gooder) enters)
Oh look, it’s Dora the Do-Gooder. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, I would like to talk to you. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, I want to tell you about Jesus? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, I haven’t seen you at church lately? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, I know you have a bible. Do you read it? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, do you pray every day? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, do you know Jesus loves you? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, do you love Jesus? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora, have you asked Jesus to forgive your sins? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dora the Do-Gooder is so nice. She’s always doing good things. She cleans her house. She cooks terrific meals. She walks the dog. She does good things to help other people too. I wish more people were as considerate as Dora the Do-Gooder is. But the problem is, Dora is spending all her time doing things and she’s not spending time with God or in His words. After some people spend all their time doing things, they’re too tired for the most important thing of all. The bible teaches us that we should serve others, but that cannot take the place of a true relationship with God.
Everyone give Sally Dora the Do-Gooder a big hand. Thank you, Dora. Now the person with number 6 go see _____ to get ready.
(Child Number 4 (Dora the Do-Gooder) exits, Child Number 5 (Dale the Delinquent) enters)
Oh look, it’s Dale the Delinquent. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale, can I tell you about Jesus? (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale has done a lot of bad things. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale cheats in school. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale lies to everybody. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale is only 15 years old and he smokes cigars and drinks beer. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale is a bully. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale, Jesus loves you no matter how bad you are. (Squeeze shoulder)
Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for the bad things you have done. (Squeeze shoulder)
Jesus wants you to have a home in heaven someday. (Squeeze shoulder)
Dale thinks Jesus doesn’t love Him and won’t forgive him because of the bad things he has done. That’s not true. We have all done bad things. No matter how bad we have been, we can ask Jesus to forgive us, and with His help turn from our sins. Then someday we can go to heaven.
Everyone give Dale the Delinquent a big hand. Thank you, Dale.
(Child Number 5 (Dale the Delinquent) exits, Children Number 6 (The Mourners) enter)
Oh, my goodness… is he… (Squeeze shoulder)
Did anybody ever tell him about Jesus? (Squeeze shoulder)
Did he know Jesus? (Squeeze shoulder)
Did he ever pray? (Squeeze shoulder)
Did he know Jesus loved him? (Squeeze shoulder)
Did he know Jesus died on the cross for his sins? (Squeeze shoulder)
Did he serve the Lord? (Squeeze shoulder)
Did he ask Jesus to forgive him? (Squeeze shoulder)
Did he know Jesus paid the punishment so he could go to heaven? (Squeeze shoulder)
Do you know if he was saved? (Squeeze shoulder)
Everyone give The Mourners a big hand. Thank you, Mourners.
(Children Number 6 (The Mourners) exit)
Everyone needs to know that Jesus loves them, and He died for their sins. As believers, we should share that good news with everyone.
If you’re not a believer, please come to Jesus now. Don’t let any excuse stop you. You might think you’re too young or too old, too busy or too tired, maybe even too bad. Please don’t wait until it’s too late.
Come to Him today. Jesus really died for your sins.
