What is Your Destination

What is a One Liner Skit?

One Liner Skits are some of the most fun skits you can do with your children. Adults and children love watching them! The skits do not require any rehearsal. They don’t require expensive costumes, props or scenery. Each child is given only one line to say just prior to their turn. Use funny props you find in thrift stores, your closet, dollar stores or make them yourself.

The children have no idea what they are going to do or say in advance. The children you choose to be in the skit are just given a piece of paper with a number on it during the program or class.

This requires two adults, the teacher who leads the program, and an assistant who gets the child ready off stage and tells him his line.

The teacher announces the skit is about to begin and sends Child Number 1 off stage. The assistant puts funny props on the child and tells the child their line. She encourages the child to speak loudly and “ham it up.” The child is to speak the line every time the teacher cues the child (generally, by squeezing his shoulder).

When Child Number 1 enters the stage, the teacher sends Child Number 2 off stage to be instructed and so on.

What is Your Destination?

Characters:

1 – Stacy StarStruck – funny hat, boa, oversized costume Jewelry

When teacher squeezes her shoulder, she should say “I’m going to be famous” and wave boa in the air.

2 – Jack the Jock – Trophy, football or basketball, baseball bat

When teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m going to be an all-star.”

3 – Ambitious Arnie – fake mustache, sports jacket (can be adult size), pre-tied tie to slip on

When teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m running for office” and smile raising his arms in the air making the peace sign with his fingers

4 – Tina the Techy – cell phone or tablet,

When she comes on stage, she should keep her eyes on the device and act like she is using it. When the teacher squeezes her shoulder, she acts like she doesn’t notice and continues to play on the device. The teacher acts like she is squeezing harder, but she still ignores it. Then the teacher acts like she is jabbing her with her elbow. Every time the teacher jabs her with her elbow, she continues to look at her phone and says, “I’m a computer genius.” She never says her line when her shoulder is squeezed.

5 – Successful Sally – wig, briefcase, toy money

When teacher squeezes her shoulder, she should say “I want more money” and wave the money in the air.

6 – Fun-Time Freddy – baseball cap, beard, brown root beer bottle or beer mug

When teacher squeezes his shoulder, he should say “I’m the life of the party” slurring his words and waving the bottle.

The props listed are just suggestions, use your imagination and have fun!

In addition to the props suggest, make a sign with a marker, construction paper and yarn with the name of each character and hang it on the child.

The Skit

(The teacher is on stage.)

Today we are going to talk about destinations. A destination is the place we are going. If I was going on vacation and my destination was Hawaii, what do you think I might pack in my suitcase? I might take some sunscreen and sandals, and light clothes so I will be comfortable. If my destination was Alaska, I would probably take some snow boots and sweaters and a heavy coat.

We have some destinations where we want to go in life. Some people might want to be doctors or cooks or teachers. Just like I would prepare for a trip to Hawaii or Alaska I would have to prepare to be a doctor or cook or teacher. I couldn’t just walk into a hospital and say I want to be a doctor and start operating on people. I would have to go to school and get trained.

I’m going to introduce you to some of my friends who have a destination where they want to take their lives.

(Child Number 6 (Fun-Time Freddy) exits)

Our friends have chosen a destination where they hope their lives will take them. Some chose a good destination to work toward. Fun-Time Freddy didn’t make a very good choice, did he? Some of our friends might make it to their destination, others may change their minds along the way and choose to take another direction in their life. That’s okay.

Whether you want to be an athlete, a politician, a fireman, a cook, or anything else, there is one destination we all need to be sure of. That destination is heaven.

The bible teaches us that everyone has sinned. Those are the bad things we do. We deserve to be punished for our sins, but Jesus loves us so much, He took the punishment for our sins by dying on the cross. If we believe that in our heart, and ask Jesus to forgive us, and with His help turn from our sins, when this life is over, our destination will be heaven.
